WOAH! This was quite an adventure. This was a chilling, fast paced thriller. If you are a fan of The Island of Doctor Moreau than you'll love this. It's actually a twisted version of it. This story had me spellbound to these pages. Megan made all the difficult language of anatomy, cells and vivisection seem like child's play.
Read the first page and you'll be mesmerized!
The minute I read the first paragraph I knew this was going to be a dark novel. Just the idea of scrubbing blood flecked floors and being in hallways compared to a graveyard raises the hair on my arms. The old English setting was perfect for this dark tale of a crooked doctor's daughter trying to stay alive while avoiding the perverse Doctor Hastings. It gets better with the eerie setting of a dangerous island housing gruesome creations made by her father. Oh, and there's love. Yes, Montgomery and Edward, the protagonist's boys of choice.
Its a very loopy relationship though.

Juliet is a very complex character, a young protagonist that is still struggling with her future when her past comes to bite her in the butt. She's suddenly forced to return to her past with Montgomery, her childhood friend and also ex-servant boy (or so he says). The minute Montgomery stepped onto the page though all the feels rushed at me like a linebacker. He is a handsome young doctor with a mysterious past but a heart wrenching story. He's got a spot in my top male characters. I don't want to spoil too much but he is even more of a genius than I at first imagined.
Now, I can't not say something about Balthazar. I could just wrap that abnormal beast in my arms and squeeze him tight! I love Balthazar so much. He's so sweet and innocent that it breaks my heart.
I want a Balthazar of my own....and I wouldn't mind a Montgomery either *wink wink*.
You have to read this! Add this to your Must-Reads and don't hesitate. It's a teeth clenching, mind-boggling adventure on the Island of Doctor Moreau.
And I just HAD to use Dylan O'Brien to describe how I was feeling about this book!
